How can I eliminate a flea infestation at home without professional help?

  1. Dealing with a flea problem on your own is totally doable; it just takes some consistency and a game plan. First, vacuum like crazy; carpets, couches, pet beds, corners; and empty that vacuum outside right away. Wash all bedding (yours and your pet’s) in hot water. Then, treat your pets with a flea treatment; I used a vet-recommended topical one and it really helped. You can also sprinkle food-grade diatomaceous earth on carpets (leave it for a day or two, then vacuum), which dries out fleas. Repeat this every few days for a couple of weeks to catch the new ones hatching. It’s a process, but it does work if you stay on it.
