  1. The original characters were replaced in "Home Alone 3" mainly because the first two movies focused on Kevin McCallister, played by Macaulay Culkin, and by the time the third film was made (in 1997), Culkin had grown up and was no longer the right fit for the role.

    The studio decided to reboot the story with a new kid, Alex Pruitt, and a fresh set of characters to give the franchise a new direction. The plot also shifted away from the original family to avoid repeating the same story, aiming to attract a new audience.

    So, it wasn’t about replacing characters within the story’s universe but starting fresh with a new cast and storyline.
