Michael leaves to move to Colorado with his fiancée, Holly Flax, to start a new life.
He quietly exits the show in Season 7, Episode 22 ("Goodbye, Michael").
He returns briefly in the series finale (Season 9) for a sweet cameo — showing he’s happy, married, and even has kids.
So no, they didn’t kill him off, he just got a proper, heartfelt send-off.
