  1. Yogi Bear got his name as a play on the name of baseball legend Yogi Berra.

When the character was introduced in 1958 by Hanna-Barbera, the name “Yogi Bear” was clearly inspired by Yogi Berra, who was already a well-known and colorful figure in Major League Baseball.

Although the creators claimed any similarity was coincidental, the timing and the unusual name “Yogi” made the connection obvious to the public.

Yogi Berra himself wasn't amused at first and even considered legal action, but ultimately didn’t pursue it.

So while it wasn’t officially acknowledged as a tribute, Yogi Bear’s name was almost certainly influenced by Yogi Berra’s fame and persona.
